Our Neighbors

Our street sits on the border of Kensington and Windsor Terrace (KWT). KWT is a quiet (but not sleepy!) community in South Brooklyn with loads of families, coffee shops, neighborhood restaurants and two of the best green spaces in New York City.

What's Nearby

Fort Hamilton Parkway is the closest “main drag” and is home to our neighborhood pub, yoga studio, coffee shops , Italian deli, a Thai takeout joint and an Israeli sandwich shop. There’s also a laundromat on the block in case you need to refresh your wardrobe. All of that is within a 4 minute walk.A 7 minute walk will take you to another “main drag”, Prospect Avenue. Here you’ll find another host of restaurants (Mexican, French Cuisine & Pizza, Italian) coffee shops, a fantastic wine shop, and local watering hole.About 10 minutes walk is the incredible Prospect Park. Visit in the summer and you can take out a kayak or peddle boat, run a few laps along the 3 mile inner-loop, skate at the roller rink and cool down in the splash pad, visit the zoo and check out the famous carousel. In the winter, there’s ice skating, peaceful wooded trails and the year round farmer’s markets.A 5 minute walk south has you at Church Avenue, a smorgasbord of produce shops, halal butchers, take-out options and small grocers. This is also near our closest big-box supermarket, Foodtown. A bit further west on Church Avenue is great for a quick drink and bite.A few minutes to the east is the entrance to the world famous Greenwood Cemetery where you can visit the resting sites of the likes of Leonard Bernstein, Jean Michel Basquiat, Horace Greeley. It is also the site of the Battle of Long Island, a turning point in the Revolutionary War.

The Details

This is Our Home

We moved into our East Third Street house, a legal two-family home, in August 2022. We’ve since been working on the house to transform it into the perfect place for our family and visitors. Our extended family lives all over the globe, and we’re so thrilled to have this space for them to come and stay. When family isn’t visiting, we offer it to neighbors and friends coming to town. Our family, including our two daughters and two dogs, live on the parlor and second floor. So, while the studio is private, you won’t be isolated. We’re here to answer questions and help with anything that comes up while you’re staying with us.

Parking & Transit

Our neighborhood has loads of parking, often with spots right outside our door. Certain days of the week require you to move cars to allow for street sweeping. We are located .2 miles from the F/G Fort Hamilton subway stop. The F train takes you into Manhattan and the G gets you to North Brooklyn. Both run quite frequently.

Noise Expectations

The studio is on the garden level of our home in a quiet neighborhood. We added significant sound proofing between our units. However, to set expectations: this is city living and you will probably still be able to tell now and then if we are upstairs. We do request that any loud noises or music cease by 9pm. No parties.

Dog-friendly

We love traveling with our pups and know how hard it can be to find a place that accommodates them. Well-behaved and fully trained dogs are welcome.

Cleaning

The studio is deep-cleaned between stays. A one-time cleaning fee ensures that the space is hygienic and tidy upon arrival and then again for the next guest.

Length of Stays

We try to remain flexible about stay durations. If you need a longer stay, we can likely accomodate you! Reach out and let us know what you’re hoping for.

Sustainability

We’re working hard on making our home as green as possible. The house is solar powered (our solar panels are on the roof!) and features high-efficiency heating and cooling units. Street-side compost collection (and our provided compost bin & bags), and a full recycling program makes it easier to create less garbage. And, while there is plenty of parking in the neighborhood, we’re proud to be 3 blocks from public transportation. And, honestly, that’s the best way to get around New York!

Working

The studio is equipped with a writing desk, plenty of outlets and dedicated high-speed wifi. If you need anything printed, let us know. If you need to borrow a laptop, we can likely provide a loaner.

Television

The television is configured with a number of provided online streaming services so you can login to a dedicated account and binge watch Hulu/Netflix/etc.
